Wärtsilä announced the introduction of a fully integrated hybrid power module, combining engines, an energy storage system, and power electronics optimised to work together through a newly developed energy management system. The Wärtsilä HY is the first hybrid power module of this type and it is exposed at this year's Norshipping Conference.

Wärtsilä announced that has been contracted to supply engines and propulsion machinery for the mega Cutter Suction Dredger, ‘Spartacus’, which is currently being built at the Royal IHC yard in the Netherlands and is to be delivered to Belgium-based DEME. DNV GL presented Hyundai Mipo Dockyard, with an approval certificate, for a new double side hull LPG carrier design – LPG SAFE, which is the first LPG carrier design to provide the safety benefit of a double side hull, while offering the same cargo carrying capacity and the same construction cost as a conventional design.

SCF Group has signed an agreement with Shell for the supply of liquefied natural gas, to fuel the first Aframax crude oil tankers in the world to be powered by LNG. The signing of this agreement marks the fulfillment of an MOU signed between Shell and SCF in September 2015 to develop Marine LNG fuelling for large-capacity tankers.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced that the world's first ice class LNG carrier, Christophe de Margerie, finished its ice trials in the Arctic Ocean. During the commissioning phase, the ship was tested for its ice breaking ability of proceeding through ice of 2.1 m thick.
