Despite the crisis followed by COVID-19, HMM launched its first of the twelve 24,000 TEU containerships HMM Algeciras, the world’s largest containership. 

Exactly five years have passed, since the methanol fuelled ferry "Stena Germanica" first set sail. In fact, the vessel was a joint venture effort among Methanex Corporation, Stena Line, and Wärtsilä as it was the world's first ferry using methanol as a marine fuel.

In light of the International Women's Day, Celebrity Cruises informed that for the first time in the history of shipping, an all-female bridge and hotel officer team cruise ship set sail. In fact, the cruise vessel "Celebrity Edge" started its seven-day journey on 8 March 2020, with 27 women from 16 different countries onboard.

Abu Dhabi Ports along with the vessel engineer Robert Allan Ltd., shake their hands in order to develop the world's first fully unmanned autonomous commercial marine tugboats. Specifically, the tugs are expected to join SAFEEN, Abu Dhabi Ports' service arm, once completed. 

On 27 February, a keel-laying ceremony for Russia's first LNG powered passenger vessel was held at the shipyard of Zelenodolsk Plan. In fact, the Russian-based Gazprom headed by Vyacheslav Mikhalenko, Member of the Management Committee, Head of Department, took part in the keel-laying ceremony for the "Chaika LNG".

Regent Seven Seas Cruises hosted an official ceremony in Miami for the christening of its newest luxury cruise ship 'Seven Seas Splendor', the first newbuilt ocean cruise ship to be helmed by a woman Captain; the 30-year veteran Captain Serena Melani.
