World's first fully-automated terminal completed

Kalmar and Navis announced the delivery of the first OneTerminal automation solution to ICTSI, at the Port of Melbourne. The deployment was completed ahead of schedule, making Victoria International Container Terminal the world’s first fully automated international container handling facility.

After more than 25 years of operation, DONG Energy’s Vindeby, the world’s first offshore wind farm, was fully dismantled. Vindeby, in the south east of Denmark, was constructed in 1991 as a demonstration project which was to prove whether it was possible to generate green power offshore.

Carnival Corporation marked the official beginning of construction for the first of its seven next-generation cruise ships that will be fully-powered by liquefied natural gas with a keel-laying ceremony at Seatrade Europe in Hamburg.

Cryostar’s fuel gas compressor installed on new LNG tanker

French Cryostar informed that it has completed commissioning and testing of its latest six-stage fuel gas compressor on the ‘SK Audace’ LNG tanker, SK Shipping and Marubeni’s newbuild. The ship is claimed to be the first LNG carrier fitted with XDF propulsion.

ESL launches world’s first LNG-fueled handyzise bulk carrier

ESL Shipping, part of Aspo Plc, informed that its new eco-friendly dry cargo vessel, Viikki, was successfully launched at the Jinling shipyard in Nanjing, China, on August 31st. Viikki is the first LNG-powered handyzise bulk carrier in the world and is a forerunner in energy efficiency.

First vessel gets DNV GL’s shore power class notation

The offshore vessel KL Sandefjord, owned by K Line Offshore, became the first offshore vessel with the DNV GL class notation shore power. The notation verifies the design and installation of a vessel’s onboard electrical shore connection, the so-called “cold ironing”.

World’s first LNG retrofitted containership completes bunkering

The world’s first containership to be converted to LNG propulsion has successfully completed its first LNG bunkering in port of Bremerhaven, Germany. The 1,036 TEU Wes Amelie, owned by Wessels Reederei, has undergone an engine conversion, from MAN four stroke engine to a dual-fuel engine, since May 2017.

Skangas to provide LNG to first LNG-fueled large bulk carriers

Skangas has entered into an agreement with ESL Shipping for providing LNG to ESL’s bulk carrier newbuildings. The new, ice-class 1A ships will be the first LNG-powered large bulk carriers in the world, that will carry out sea transports within the Baltic Sea and the North Sea.
