Seafarers’ mental health issues should be as important as safety issues

Captain Rajesh Unni, CEO and Founder of ship manager Synergy Group, highlighted that mental health awareness should be a priority on first aid seafarer training, adding that more has to be done to understand and alleviate mental strains of life at sea, as the dangers became more apparent.

USCG medevacs crewmember from tanker

The US Coast Guard informed that it medevaced a 45-year-old man off a tanker approximately 27 miles south of Sabine, Texas, on Tuesday, June 12. The crewmember was reportedly suffering from symptoms of a cardiac arrest. The crewmember was transported to St. Elizabeth Hospital in Beaumont, Texas, and his condition was stable.

Crewmember medevacked from ship off Michigan

The US Coast Guard informed that it conducted a medevac of a 54-year-old man off a vessel 15 miles northeast of Harbor Beach, Michigan, on Friday, June 1. The crewmember was experiencing severe abdominal pains. The man was safely hoisted approximately 80 feet into the helicopter and was transported to Huron Medical Center in Bad Axe.
