According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the Mississippi River faces the potential for bottlenecks for the third consecutive year due to warm, dry spring conditions and reduced winter snowpack, leading to decreased water flow into the river, Bloomberg highlights.

The river's near-historic lows due to extreme drought are causing problems with transfers of cargo through the river, which is especially problematic for the upcoming grain season.
