The International Chamber of Shipping (ICS), along with industry and social partners, are encouraging ships in ports globally to sound their horns at 12 noon local time on 25th June, to honour of the International Maritime Organisations’ ‘Day of the Seafarer’.

The North American Maritime Ministry Association has compiled information on COVID-19 vaccine availability for foreign seafarers in United States ports.

NSW Health will provide COVID-19 vaccinations to a small number of foreign seafarers onboard vessels that transport gas between Australian ports.

A COVID-19 vaccination program for seafarers will start in the Netherlands in mid-June, the Royal Association of Dutch Shipowners (KVNR) announced. All seafarers who work on seagoing vessels under the Dutch flag or under Dutch management are eligible for the program. 

Covid-19 vaccines may be made available in several select ports in the US for administering to foreign seafarers on vessels, the Standard P&I Club informed, citing information by several more third-party medical service providers. 

In a new statement to shipping, IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim reiterated his call on all IMO Member States to support a fair global distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, beyond fulfilling their national needs, to ensure seafarers can access vaccines.
