Spain has designed a new submarine, however this project encountered some problems. At first a design error made the submarine unable to float. Now, it has been discovered that its size is too big to fit at the docks at Cartagena. To accommodate the submarine, the Cartagena base will now have to be dredged and reshaped.

The humanitarian boat 'Open Arms', which was carrying 60 migrants, docked in Barcelona on Wednesday July 4, as it was scheduled. The ship ended up in Spain after Malta and Italy had rejected it. Despite the fact that the irregular immigration has decreased, European countries are polarized in their immigration policies.

A humanitarian boat with 59 migrants on board was rescued off Libya and is now heading to Barcelona, after Italy and Malta refused to allow the ship dock in their ports. The ship Open Arms is carrying five women and four children, and will arrive in Barcelona on Wednesday, July 4.

Gas Natural Fenosa and Baleària announced completion of the first LNG bunkering at the Port of València, Turia quay, on Saturday afternoon for Baleària’s ferry, 'Abel Matutes', boosting the port's efforts to reduce emissions and improve air quality.

The Port of Seville in Spain, and especially the Armamento dock, will accommodate a new commercial shipment of offshore wind towers. The GRI Towers Sevilla company has transported four parts of towers in the last days. Each tower weighs 380 tonnes and is 85 metres in length. The large structures are heading to the East Anglia One park.

Spanish ferry operator Baleària has put into service the 'Eco Lux' to the Eivissa-Formentera route, the second eco-fast ferry in the series of four that are destined to cover this line. Compared with the ships of the Maverick series, operating this line until recently, the 'Eco Aqua' reduces CO2 emissions by around 35%. 

Spanish authorities have seized a massive amount of drugs, after finding almost 8.7 tonnes of cocaine among boxes including bananas in a shipping container at the port of Algeciras. As a result, six people are arrested, with two of them being detained in Lyon, France, one in Algeciras and three in Malaga.

The Spanish Harbour Masters agreed to support the "Boarding Program for Maritime Cadets" launched by the General Directorate of the Merchant Marine together with IMO. Through the Program, a total of 111 students have been embarked, with the collaboration of more than 100 national and foreign entities.

NABU and Ecologistas en Acción found levels of contamination up to 70 times greater in the the Strait of Gibraltar and Barcelona, than the pollution on cities. Under this light, Ecologistas en Acción called the Spanish government to join France in the creation of Sulfur Emission Control Areas that limits the entry of highly polluting vessels in the Mediterranean.

Florindo González Corral, the Spanish fishing tycoon who owned the pirate fishing vessel 'Thunder', has been fined 8.2 million euros in a civil case brought by the Spanish government. Thunder was an INTERPOL-wanted fishing vessel involved in more than 10 years of illegal fishing in the Southern Ocean, before its captain deliberately sank it in Gulf of Guinea.
