Asean called to cooperate for the establishment of a single shipping market

Asean member states must continue working to establish a single shipping market, Calvin Phua, deputy secretary of hub strategy at Singapore's Ministry of Transport, highlighted. This will enable the free flow of Asean shipping services, which will drive the economic growth in the region. This will in turn lead to more trade and investment, as well as more economic opportunities for Asean.

Singapore begins pilot project for e-bills of lading

Singapore will begin a pilot project during 2019 to shift paper-based bills of lading into electronic ones. This measure aims to reduce delays when container ships dock and unload in the country. In order for the e-bills of lading to keep up with international standards, changes will also be made to the Electronic Transactions Act. The pilot will be called TradeTrust and was announced on March 4.

Hainan refinery ships low sulphur marine fuel

Sinopec’s subsidiary refinery in Singapore's province of Hainan delivered its first shipment of low-sulphur bunker fuel, complying withe upcoming IMO 2020 sulphur cap regulation. Namely, a ship with 2,200 tonnes of low-sulphur fuel departed the Hainan refinery in late February heading to Ningbo on the east coast. The fuel will be put to pilot use at a maritime institution in Shanghai.
