Wärtsilä announced that it signed a service agreement with PGS Geophysical AS, according to which, Wärtsilä will be the service supplier for engines and other equipment. Under the agreement, Wärtsilä will take care of the maintenance of engines and propulsion systems on board PGS’s fleet of 8 seismic vessels, securing maximum uptime, as well as safe and economic operations.

Rolls-Royce has announced that it has won a contract to supply engines and waterjets to power and propel two new high-speed vessels designed and built by Intermarine for the Italian Navy.

SK Shipping has selected WinGD to supply two 5-cylinder X72DFengines for each of a pair of 180,000 m3 LNG carriers. The ships are scheduled for delivery in 2019 with engines being supplied in Feb 2018 for the first vessel and in April 2018 for the second.

After a period of negotiation, Korean shipowner, ILSHIN and HMD have signed a shipbuilding contract for a 50,000 dwt bulk carrier. As a world first for the segment, the vessel will be powered by an MAN B&W 6G50ME-C9.5-GI engine, to be built by HHI-EMD who will also supply the ME-GI and fuel gas supply system.

MAN Diesel & Turbo announced that it will deliver world’s first IMO certified two-stroke engine with Tier III NOx control and Exhaust Gas Recirculation Systems. While there are already IMO Tier III-compliant vessels with EGR systems in service, the Suezmax newbuildings will be the first vessels with keel-laying after 1 January, 2016 to be officially certified as complying with Tier III emission restrictions within existing North American NOx Emission Control Areas (NECAs) and the United States Caribbean Sea NECA.

Crowley Maritime Corporation announced that with the recent setting of the main engine onto El Coquí, the first of two new, Commitment Class ConRo (combination container and Roll/On-Roll/Off) ships has reached a new milestone. The ships will be powered by liquefied natural gas for use in the ocean cargo trade between Jacksonville and Puerto Rico.
