Naming ceremony held for two vessels set to ship LNG from Angola

LNG vessels being built for NYK On August 17, a naming ceremony was held at the Geoje Island shipyard of Samsung Heavy Industries , Ltd.(Samsung) in Korea for two LNG vessels being built for joint owners NYK LNG (Atlantic) Ltd. (headquarters: London, UK), a wholly owned subsidiary of NYK; Mitsui & Co. Ltd. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo); and Teekay Corporation (headquarters: Vancouver, Canada) to ship LNG. The vessels are chartered by Angola LNG Supply Services (ALSS; headquarters: Houston, U.S) and will ship the LNG produced by Angola LNG Ltd.H.E José Maria Botelho de Vasconcelos, petroleum minister of the Republic of Angola; Ichizo Kobayashi, managing officer and COO of the Marine & Aerospace Business Unit at Mitsui; David Glendinning, president of Teekay Gas Services; In-Sik Roh, president and CEO of Samsung; and NYK representative director and senior managing corporate officer Masahiro Kato were in attendance. Big marine orders from Asian oil and gas

ABB wins orders worth a total of $200 million ABB reports that it won equipment orders worth a total of $200 million from Samsung, Hyundai, Keppel FELS and Jurong Shipyard, in South-Korea and Singapore, for 23 new jack-up and DP drilling vessels and one FPSO.The companysays that its delivery will help the ships maximise energy efficiency, and provide a reliable power supply to improve the use of onboard equipment. The scope of supply includes complete electrical systems and related equipment such as generators, distribution switchboards, and transformers, as well as drives and motors to power the ships' thrusters and drilling systems. Euronav delays Samsung tanker newbuildings

Euronav has delayed the deliver of two suexmax and one VLCC newbuilding Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) has agreed to delay the delivery of three tanker newbuildings to Euronav until next year.Euronav has delayed the deliver of two suexmax and one VLCC newbuilding being built at SHI from the second half of this year to the first half 2012.The shipowner reported average spot earnings of just $22,000 a day in the second quarter for its VLCCs and $12,200 daily for suezmaxes.Source: Seatrade Asia

Maersk Drilling to build two ultra deepwater drillships at Samsung Heavy Industries

The total project cost is approximately at USD 1.3 billion Maersk Drilling, a business unit within the A.P. Moller- Maersk group, has declared its option to build two ultra deepwater drillships at Samsung Heavy Industries in South Korea.The drillships are scheduled for delivery in the second and third quarters of 2014, respectively. The total project cost for the two drillships is approximately USD 1.3 billion, which includes a turnkey contract with the yard, owner furnished equipment, project management, commissioning, start-up costs and capitalized interest. Korea’s top three shipbuilders see increase in orders

The three shipbuilders also secured two-thirds of the total global LNG carrier orders Korea's top three shipbuilders saw an increase in new orders this year despite global shipbuilding orders dropping sharply from a year earlier.According to related industries, global shipbuilding orders during the January to May period stood at 12 million CGT or compensated gross tons which is not even a third of total orders received last year.However, Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries and Samsung Heavy Industries secured orders worth 14.8 billion and 11.1 billion dollars, respectively, during the first half of this year which is more than what the two shipbuilders received during 2010.Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering also won contracts worth more than 6.7 billion dollars more than half of last year's total orders of 11.2 billion dollars.Then what is behind the Korean shipbuilders' strong performances this yearAnd all 21 orders were won by Korean firms, with Hyundai securing 9, Samsung 8 and Daewoo 4.The three shipbuilders also secured two-thirds of the total global LNG carrier orders, while also receiving more than 40 orders for container vessels with over 10-thousand TEU or twenty-foot container capacity.Industry officials attribute the three companies' dominance to the outstanding technologies Korean firms possess and ...
