Incidents occurred in Venezuela The Gard P&I Club issues alert regarding robbery of vessels in ports of Venezuela as follows:The risk of armed robbery is still of concern for vessels anchoring in the areas surrounding Puerto La Cruz and Barcelona City off the north coast of Venezuela. Gard would like to take the opportunity to warn our Members and Clients about this problem and to repeat some of the advice provided by our local correspondent and authorities as to precautionary measures to be taken by vessels calling at ports in the relevant areas.The situationReported incidents involve intruders, usually approaching the vessel in small fishing boats, climbing aboard the vessels during the night while the vessel is at anchor. The intruders' intentions are to rob the vessel and its crewmembers of all valuables. During the robbery, crew members have been threatened, beaten and even attacked with knives and guns.According to Gard's correspondent in Venezuela, extra precautions should be taken when anchoring in the proximity of the Jose (Bahia de Barcelona) and Pertigalete terminals or close to the port of Guanta and the Guaraguaoterminal in the Bahia de Pozuelos.Our correspondent in Venezuela also states that a meeting was arranged not long ago ...

ReCAAP I issues incident alert re vessels robbed at Singapore Strait

The robbers escaped and took with them a lifebuoy The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre issued an Incident Alert stating that, at about 0200 hours on 9 September robbers boarded a chemical tanker anchored off Pulau Karimun Besar, Indonesia.When spotted by a crewmember, the robbers escaped and took with them a lifebuoy. At about 0300 hours on 11 September, robbers boarded a tug boat underway off Pulau Karimun Besar. Robbery on LPG tanker near Singapore

Held two members of the crew hostage before escaping Four robbers armed with long knives boarded a Singapore-registered LPG tanker near Singapore early Monday morning to steal engine parts from the engine room.Anti-piracy agency ReCaap Focal Point Singapore said they also briefly held two members of the crew of Gas Batam hostage before escaping in a speed boat.The incident occurred at about 2am on the waters just east of Pulau Karimun Kechil.It lasted 10 minutes and crew members - including the two hostages, an oiler and a third engineer - are reported to be safe.The ship master has reported the incident to Singapore's Port Operation Control Centre (POCC).Source: Channel News Asia

Vessel should proceed to anchor in Bahia de Pozuelo The Sculd P&I Club reports on board robbery incident thanks to Francisco Villanova in Venepandi, correspondent in Caracas, who provided the following information :Francisco Villanova reports that Puerto la Cruz, Venezuela is experiencing piracy or onboard robbery which Members and the Club should be aware of in order to take relevant precautions. If vessels waiting for berth in Jose and other oil terminals in that area are ordered to anchor in the vicinity of Barcelona City, the master should reject such an order. We suggest that the Master says that the vessel will proceed to anchor in Bahia de Pozuelos in the vicinity of Puerto la Cruz city.The point is that the bandits climb on board, taking advantage of darkness of night, lack of vigilance and that the port is located in an uninhabited area far from the city, harbour and naval bases.There have already been cases in which the crew has been gagged, threatened with high calibre weapons and crewmembers have been beaten. Four Sri Lankan arrested for human-smuggling operation aboard Ocean Lady

Ship brought Sri Lankan refugees to Canada Four Sri Lankan nationals have been arrested in Toronto in connection with a human-smuggling operation involving the freighter Ocean Lady, which brought 76 Sri Lankan refugee claimants to B.C. in 2009.The men are the first to face charges after Canadian security officials seized the freighter off the coast of British Columbia on Oct. 17, 2009.The four are alleged to have been involved with organizing the overall venture and of being active leaders on the vessel. They have been charged via direct indictment under human-smuggling legislation, specifically for the offence of organizing entry into Canada under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act.Vignarajah Thevarajah, 33, Francis Anthonimuthu Appulonappa, 33, Hamalraj Handasamy, 39, and Jeyachandran Kanagarajah, 32, have been remanded in custody as the investigation continues. Six robbers boarded the tanker near Horsburgh Lighthouse ReCAAP issued Incident Alert for robbery on Dong Jiang Tanker.On 30 May 11 at or about 0129 hrs, a Singapore-registered tanker Dong Jiang was underway at approximately 30 nm east of Horsburgh Lighthouse (01 19.30' N, 104 54.50' E) when six robbers boarded the vessel.The robbers stole cash and other valuables before they escaped. Robbers steal items from passing barge

Various items had been stolen The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre issued an incident alert stating that a barge was being towed in the eastbound TSS south of Changi when a passing patrol boat of the Singapore Police Coast Guard (PCG) sighted a sampan alongside the barge.Four or five men were then seen leaving the barge onto two sampans and moving south.
