Watch: Partners launch first device converting wave energy to electricity

AW-Energy, the Finnish wave energy developer, has completed the construction of the first commercial 350 kW WaveRoller unit, which is prepared for deployment at Peniche in Portugal. The device converting ocean wave energy to electricity, functions in near-shore locales at depths of 8 to 20 meters and the mechanism can be partially or entirely submerged depending on tidal conditions.

Port of Sines soon to be expanded

Portugal and Sines Port Authority have agreed regarding the expansion and completion of the third phase of the Terminal XXI expansion works. The overall project is expected to cost a total of €547 million. Terminal XXI will now have a 1,950-metre quay, as well as a 60-hectare storage area. This will enable the capacity to be increased from 2.3 million TEU, to 4.1 million.

Portuguese ports install Vessel Traffic Service solution

The systems aim to enhance the efficiency of these ports by reducing waiting time for vessels and allowing just-in-time pilotage. The VTS software has extensive functionalities, and the solution is modular, scalable, and accessible for future upgrade developments.

MSC to invest to next-gen container terminal in Port of Portugal

MSC Mediterranean Shipping Company through its freight operator Medway in Iberia, is making a significant investment in the construction of Portugal’s largest dry port to address the growing needs of exporters and shippers in the north of the country. Construction will begin as soon as the required licences have been approved and is expected to be operational by March 2020.
