On 31st of October, Port Canaveral announced record-breaking results from all operations, as well as new high-water marks for the Port’s major business lines of cruise and cargo. More cruise guests than ever chose to do multi-day vacations at Port Canaveral in 2018, as the number of passenger movements increased by 327,489 to 4,568,431 in 2018, a 7.7% increase over last year.

Global cargo ships are expected to arrive at the Bellingham Shipping Terminal on a regular basis in consequence of a new service contract between the Port of Bellingham and Ports America.The port is in the process of designating the shipping terminal and surrounding areas as a Foreign Trade Zone, where customers can store goods without having to pay United States import duties and taxes.

The Port of Valencia has released specifications for the construction and operation of a new container terminal in the Northern Extension of the Port of Valencia, through an administrative concession. The terminal is expected to have been built at the port of Valencia by 2050.

At a recent meeting in London at the Baltic Exchange, the world's leading associations for the world port community gathered to set out a Roundtable aiming to establish a stronger voice of the port sector in the maritime industry. Each association analyzed its main priorities moving ahead with all parties and agreed to collaborate closely on current and new projects.

On October 24th, the Port of Rotterdam Authority, and Camilo Santana, Governor of the Brazilian state of Ceará, signed an investment agreement regarding the Port of Rotterdam Authority’s participation in the development of the port of Pecém. The agreement outlines how the Port of Rotterdam Authority will be investing about EUR 75 million in Pecém’s port-industrial complex.

The doors of the world’s largest sea lock in IJmuiden are heading to the Netherlands. On the night of 23 October the doors left from South Korea and they are expected to arrive in the Netherlands in about two months. The doors are being transferred on a heavy-load carrier. 

The second guide of IMO's "Port Emissions Toolkits' is intended to serve as a resource guide for ports intending to develop an emissions reduction strategy for port-related emissions sources. The guide describes the methods that can be used by ports to go beyond regulatory requirements.

Yilport Puerto Bolívar has ordered 6 ship-to-shore cranes and 18 electrified rubber-tired gantry cranes. The cranes will be delivered in three shipments to support rising volumes and modernization plans of Yilport Puerto Bolívar. 2 STS cranes and 6 RTG cranes will be delivered in the last quarter of 2019. The second and third deliveries to include 4 STS and 12 RTG cranes will be shipped in the first half of 2020.

Responding to reports that the UK Government may charter ships in case of a No-Deal Brexit, UK Chamber of Shipping CEO Bob Sanguinetti said that it is not clear how chartered ships will help. Mr. Sanguinetti said that goods will still need to go through the same customs procedures in ports, where the problem is.

India and Myanmar signed an MoU to appoint a private operator of the Sittwe Port. This aims to enhance connectivity and create job opportunities, while the two counties discussed issues of common interest, such as the development of the Rakhine state.
