Port of Rotterdan gets LNG hybrid barge

 Becker Marine Systems and KOTUG signed a Memorandum of Understanding to launch a LNG Hybrid Barge in the Port of Rotterdam with effect from June 2017.The LNG Hybrid Barge, a floating energy plant, is designed to provide environmentally friendly power for ships in ports. The LNG Hybrid Barge will deliver clean energy to moored cruise ships and contributes to a cleaner environment. It is an alternative for producing electricity in the traditional way by either their generator sets or their main engines. During winter season the LNG Hybrid Barge will be able to deliver heat to factories or to the central city heating system in addition to electricity.Becker Marine Systems (BMS) is the owner of the LNG Hybrid Barge and provides services to charter out the barge. The LNG Hybrid Barge concept is patented by LNG Hybrid, a division of Becker Marine systems.  Port of Rotterdam organized two meetings to address the results achieved and the still remaining barriers for the implementation of LNG as a fuel for inland shipping.Over a hundred LNG specialists from various European ports, local governments and the private market, accepted the invitation of the Port of Rotterdam for two LNG-Masterplan meetings. On the first day, September 23rd, Safety was the main topic. On the second day, September 24th, Strategy. Automated container terminal launched at Port of Rotterdam

 Rotterdam World Gateway (RWG) celebrated the official opening of its highly innovative and automated container terminal at Maasvlakte 2 on 11th Septermber, 2015.The Mayor of Rotterdam, Ahmed Aboutaleb, opened the terminal together with RWG’s Managing Director. Mayor Aboutaleb about the new container terminal in the port of Rotterdam: “If we as a global port have the ambition to remain a world player, we need outstanding companies that are ready for the future. RWG is such an organization.”High-quality automationRWG’s terminal is able to handle the largest vessels afloat in the most efficient and reliable way due to its innovative character. With dedicated handling facilities for barge, rail and road and extensive automation on site, RWG looks very different to a traditional marine terminal. “Our terminal, with its fully automated cranes, is run by a team of no more than 10 to 15 people on a day-to-day basis”, said Managing Director Ronald Lugthart.
