Port of Oakland says that export volume reached a three-year high in October, soaring 20% over 2015 totals. The Port shipped the equivalent of 89,473 export containers last month being the most since Oct. 2013 and the fourth-largest monthly total in its history.

Port of Oakland has announced that work could begin next month to nearly double the size of the port’s second-largest marine terminal. TraPac LLC has said that it’s ready to begin construction on a 57-acre expansion at the Port’s Outer Harbor. The Board of Port Commissioners approved the project at a meeting Oct. 27.

Port of Oakland says that Diesel emissions from trucks serving the port have declined 98 percent between 2005 and 2015. In that same timeframe, ship emissions dropped 75 percent.

Bigger ships may be using the newly widened Panama Canal, but they’re not bypassing Oakland to get there. The Port of Oakland said that wider canal locks have not dented its business.

The Port of Oakland has said that Oakland International Container Terminal will make evening operations permanent following a successful three-month trial.

Over 60,000 Californians are expected to clean up beaches and waterways for the annual California Coastal Cleanup Day this Saturday. As part of the statewide effort, about 200 volunteers will gather at two Port of Oakland properties to clean up the shoreline.

A Transpacific shipping route linking Asia and the U.S. will add weekly Port of Oakland stops beginning in November. The Port has said that Oakland will become the sixth stop in the service operated by three Asian shipping lines.

The Port of Oakland announced it has received for the tenth consecutive year the US EPA Energy Star award. In 2016, the Port of Oakland headquarters at 530 Water Street is the only building in the city to receive this distinction so far.

The Port o.f Oakland has issued that containerized export volume increased 7 percent last month from a year ago. It was the fourth consecutive month of increases in Oakland.

A $1.5 million subsidy program to stimulate night and weekend business at the Port of Oakland has been extended. The Port’s largest marine terminal operator responded today saying it will use the program to further expand weeknight operations. The announcement comes as the Port abandons its traditional 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. operating model.
