Port of Oakland officials announced the state of California has millions of dollars available for purchasing new, lower-emission trucks and cargo-handling equipment. The Port is meeting with trucking company owners and harbor drivers to inform them about clean-truck grants. 

The Port of Oakland announced that it will build a Seaport Logistics Complex, which will give priority in hiring workers from nearby neighbourhoods. Community leaders welcomed the decision, saying that it can create a national model for local hiring.

The Port of Oakland recently said that they expect to take on upcoming changes to container shipping alliances with little disruption. The Port expects cargo volume to hold steady once new alliances begin operation April 1. Fewer but larger ships will visit Oakland weekly, laden with more ocean containers.

Port of Oakland announced that up to six 366-foot-tall cranes will soon be raised 27-feet higher, in order to make it easier to load and unload megaships with containers stacked high above deck. The project will begin this spring at its largest marine terminal.

Loaded shipping container volume reached an all-time high at the Port of Oakland in 2016. The Port reported today that it handled the equivalent of 1.83 million loaded 20-foot containers last year.

The Port of Oakland has said that containerized export volume has increased 11.5 percent in November from the same period last year while it was the third straight month of double digit growth and the 10th time exports have risen this year as well.
