EU Parliament and Council negotiators reached an informal deal to extend an existing ban on discharge of oil spills by ships to include sewage and garbage.

According to Reuters, the oil leak from a capsized barge, carrying approximately 35,000 barrels of fuel oil off the coast of Tobago in early February, has been successfully halted, said the twin islands' government on 7th March 2024.

Since February 7th, 2024, the Tobago Emergency Management Agency (TEMA) has been responding on an incident of an overturned vessel and a resulting oil spill near Cove Eco Industrial and Business Park in Tobago.

On 15th August, the hulk of the dry bulk carrier OS 35 arrived in Amsterdam, where it is set to be recycled, one year after the vessel was wrecked.

According to the Canadian offshore petroleum regulator, the Hibernia Management and Development Company (HMDC), is pleading guilty to an oil spill from a platform off St. John’s Newfoundland, which occurred in July 2019.

The U.S. Coast Guard (USCG) and partner agencies join efforts respond to a discharge of diesel fuel from a partially sunken tugboat near Florence, Alabama. 

The salvage operation to remove bow section of wrecked bulker OS 35 which begun on 3rd July, completed.  The two sections of the hulk have been removed, 10 months after the vessel hit an anchored gas carrier and sank off Gibraltar.

Port officials reports that the next step in the process to remove the wreck of the bulker OS 35 that sank at the end of August 2022 off Gibraltar is now underway. 

Up to 3,400 gallons of oil were spilled in the Mississippi river from a Kirby Inland Marine barge near Natchez, the U.S. Coast Guard said on 12th June.
