The UK’s ambitious goal to double its renewable energy capacity by 2030 will be achieved already by 2026, spurred by a wave of mostly wind power investments, new research by Norwegian analyst Rystad Energy shows.

New research by RenewableUK shows that the total pipeline of global offshore wind projects has grown by 47% since January, despite the pandemic.

Norway's Prime Minister Erna Solberg and Kværner apprentice Arne Linga marked the starting of construction for Hywind Tampen, the world's largest floating offshore wind farm, at Kværner Stord, on 1st October.

A shared transmission infrastructure to link UK offshore wind farms to the grid could save consumers approximately £6 billion, or 18%, in capital and operating expenditure between now and 2050, a new report suggests. 

Maersk Supply Service, part of Danish shipping giant A.P. In the main scenarios of this year's BP Energy Outlook, global energy demand continues to grow for at least part of ‎the period to 2050. However, over this time, the structure of energy demand fundamentally ‎shifts, with a declining role for fossil fuels offset by an increasing share for renewable energy ‎and a growing role for electricity. ‎Decisive policy measures, such as significant increases in carbon prices, are needed to ‎deliver a lasting reduction in emissions from energy use.‎

Norwegian energy company Equinor has entered into an agreement with oil major BP, creating a strategic partnership in offshore wind in the US covering both current and potential future projects.

Scotland has good technical capability to support offshore wind port functions in some locations, but there is a significant risk that existing port capacity will be insufficient to support the offshore wind build-out rates required in Scottish waters to meet the UK-wide net-zero target, a new report by Crown Estate Scotland reveals. 

French energy giant Total has entered a partnership with Macquarie’s Green Investment Group (GIG) to develop a portfolio of five large floating offshore wind projects in South Korea with a potential cumulated capacity of more than 2 GW. Entering the South Korean offshore market aligns with the company's low carbon strategy.
