Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha held a naming ceremony for the newly-built LNG carrier, currently the largest Moss-type LNG carrier, at Sakaide Shipyard of Kawasaki Heavy Industries. After delivery, the ship will be carrying LNG from the Ichthys LNG Project in Darwin, Australia to Taiwan.

The offshore vessel KL Sandefjord, owned by K Line Offshore, became the first offshore vessel with the DNV GL class notation shore power. The notation verifies the design and installation of a vessel’s onboard electrical shore connection, the so-called "cold ironing".

To promote LNG bunkering in Asia, MPA and MLIT will helm a working group to conduct a feasibility study on LNG bunkering for car carriers plying between Japan and Singapore. The working group will include Japan’s big three shippers, K Line, NYK and MOL.

Japanese “K”Line Group informed that it has begun implementation of "DRIVE GREEN NETWORK", its recently established environmental management system. DGN targets to strengthen environmental management, set environmental policies and improve environmental conservation activities through the PDCA cycle.

Japanese K Line announced that its “DRIVE GREEN HIGHWAY,” a 7,500RT large-scale car carrier won the award of “Ship of the Year 2016” by the Japan Society of Naval Architects and Ocean Engineers, on July 7. The ship is equipped with technologies that contribute to reduction of air pollutant emissions.

MOL, NYK and K Line announced that the joint venture planned has received all necessary approvals for compliance with local competition laws, confirming that there is no impact on the three companies' integration plans for the new container shipping business. The service commencement date for the new company is likewise unchanged from 1 April 2018.

K' Line, Sumitomo Corporation, JGC Corporation, and Development Bank of Japan have agreed in principle to participate in the owning and chartering business for oil and gas floating production, storage and offloading run by the Malaysian offshore production services provider, Yinson Holdings Berhad and its group of companies.

The European Commission has approved, under the EU Merger Regulation, the creation of a joint venture between the three Japanese shipping companies, NYK, MOL and K Line, as it concluded that the proposed acquisition would raise no competition concerns given the limited impact of the transaction on the routes to and from Europe.

Seven shipping companies operating in Mexico have been fined for causing a rise in prices after colluding on routes in the auto transport services market. The companies conducted monopolistic practices, by agreeing and executing agreements to segment the market for motor vehicle shipping services, according to the Federal Commission of Economic Competition of Mexico.

“K” Line announced that two of its subsidiaries, Taiyo Nippon Kisen Co., Ltd. and Escobal Japan Ltd. will be merged on July 1, 2017 and tentatively scheduled to be renamed “K” Line RORO and Bulk Ship Management Co., Ltd. on April 1, 2018.
