Vincent Lagarrigue, Trelleborg, suggests technology for ensuring the safe operation of LNG bunkering and highlights how important is to use LNG as a marine fuel in a easy, reliable and above all safe way. Mr. Lagarrigue also recommends further implementation of LNG bunkering operations offshore for efficient time management and less congestion at ports.

Mr. Poul Woodall, Director Environment & Sustainability, DFDS, explains what the GREEN4SEA Clean Shipping Award means for his company. DFDS was the winner of the award this year for its focus on green shipping by investing in many initiatives. Mr. Woodall highlights that companies should never put on hold efforts for reducing their environmental impact.

Yves Vandenborn, Director of Loss Prevention talks about Standard P&I Club’s initiatives to tackle human error. Capt. Vandenborn notes that there is a need to enhance situational awareness and reassess the risks involved in daily operations in order seafarers not to deal with them as routine tasks and he concludes that safety culture with quality experience is crucial.

George Devereese, Loss Prevention Advisor, UK P&I Club, says that personal injury is the Club’s second highest volume of claims and the most costly as well. He suggests information sharing as best practice for loss prevention, for example near miss and accident reporting should become an actual learning experience for all crew onboard

Colin Gillespie, North P&I Club, notes that one of the biggest challenges for the industry is to retain the ‘right crew’ onboard. Mr. Gillespie highlights that safety culture and seafarer standards are closely linked, therefore it is important to keep onboard seafarers with the right ability and attitude, and talks about Club’s initiatives towards that end.

Following recent pirate attacks off Somalia, industry is a bit concerned about Somali piracy again after approximately five years since the latest reported incident. Cyber security is a new emerging industry that has attracted much of industry’s attention. James Wilkes, Managing Director, GRAY PAGE, says that, regardless the type of the risk, industry must be always alerted and concerned about securing seafarers from piracy or any form of violence by external criminal actors.

Dr. Amory Lovins talks about the energy-efficient technologies which will be implemented on the Peace Boat Ecoship project, and shares his hopes for the future of the ‘energy revolution.
