Five people died and one was injured, after a fire erupted in ASL Marine Holdings Ltd. shipyard in Batam, Indonesia, on 7 September 2017, according to the company's announcement. The incident occurred on board a tanker that was being repaired at one of the yard's dry docks.

On November 19, the Vietnamese cargo ship MV Thaison 4 collided with the Indonesian sailboat KM Mulya Sejati off Indonesia's East Java province leaving three dead. All of the victims were from the Indonesian boat.
