Australian Maritime Safety Authority published a notice, in order to provide general information, to shipowners, masters and crews, on the Australian legislative requirements that implement MARPOL Annex V, the 2012 Guidelines for the Implementation of MARPOL Annex V and other relevant IMO guidance.

A study by Wood Mackenzie shows that global bunker fuel costs could rise by up to US$60 billion per year from 2020, in a full compliance scenario, when the IMO 0.5 wt% sulphur cap for bunker fuels starts.

The Chairman of the International Chamber of Shipping, Esben Poulsson, has set out what the industry would like the International Maritime Organization to achieve as part of its CO2 reduction strategy for the shipping sector. ICS hopes that IMO can adopt an ambitious strategy by 2018 matching the spirit of the Paris Agreement.

Danish Maritime Authority announced that experts from all over the world met in London to debate tomorrow's safety standards. On this context, DMA calls for new regulations and guidelines on safe mooring arrangements and notes that an international regulation on safety is highly prioritised by Denmark.

Under the GloMEEP project, IMO introduced a course consisted of a series of lectures, interactive exercises and videos in Malaysia which highlighted the on-going environmental protection goals by spreading industry best practices that can reduce fuel consumption from ships and associated greenhouse gas emissions.

IMO announced that a feasibility study to look into the possible expansion of the Northeast Asia Logistics Information Service Network (NEAL-NET) was undertaken in Cambodia, as part of a project co-funded by IMO and China. The envisaged expansion of NEAL-NET is expected to support the implementation of the revised Facilitation Convention, by 8 April 2019.

The new ICS Flag State Performance Table for 2016/2017 continues to highlight the sound performance of all of the world’s major flag administrations, regardless of whether they are open registers or so called ‘traditional’ maritime flags. An important development in this period is that participation by maritime administrations in the IMO Member State Audit Scheme became mandatory in 2016.
