IBIA seeks new Chief Executive

New Chief Executive to run the organisation from its Southampton headquarters The International Bunker Industry Association's (IBIA) has announced that it is seeking a new Chief Executive to run the organisation from its Southampton headquarters.The 600 member trade association has been run by IBIA board member and maritime arbitrator Trevor Harrison on an interim basis since the resignation of its previous Chief Executive last year.IBIA Chairman Nigel Draffin said:"Representing interests from across the entire marine fuels industry at the highest level represents an exciting opportunity for someone with extensive shipping or oil industry knowledge. Simon Neo is new IBIA chairman

International Bunker Industry Association also appoints Dilip Mody as honorary treasurer Meeting in Singapore recently the International Bunker Industry Association's (IBIA) board of directors unanimously agreed to appoint Simon Neo as vice-chairman and Dilip Mody as honorary treasurer for 2012 to 2013.IBIA's procedures mean that Mr Neo, who is executive director of Singapore-based Piroj International, will take over as IBIA chairman in 2013.Current IBIA chairman, Nigel Draffin, said of the appointment: "I am glad to welcome and congratulate Simon Neo on his election to the position of vice chairman of IBIA. I look forward to his advice and guidance during my year as chairman and know from past performance that he will be active and involved in everything that we do. I am also pleased to welcome Dilip Mody to the position of honorary treasurer. Dilip has been a stalwart on the board and with his commercial experience we can be sure that he will carry out the Treasurers duties to the same high standards as his predecessors. IBIA to engage in LNG issues

Bunker industry to become more involved in the ongoing discussions on LNG as a fuel at IMO The International Bunker Industry Association's (IBIA) board has taken a formal decision to "become more closely engaged in LNG matters". The move was announced at last week's IBIA's Annual Convention, held in Barcelona, by its acting chief executive Trevor Harrison. He told delegates that the association would become more involved in the ongoing discussions on LNG as a fuel at the International Maritime Organization (IMO).The potential of LNG as a fuel for merchant ships received considerable attention. Several speakers referred to the issue while addressing industry concerns about the 2015 implementation of the 0.1% sulphur content cap in bunkers used within Emission Control Areas (ECAs). In addition one session was entirely devoted to the prospects for widespread use of LNG.While there were some cautionary voices, the focus on LNG reflected IBIA's considered view that now is the time for the bunker industry to become involved in the development of gas powered ships.
