DNV GL published a new research paper, reporting that hydrogen can play a significant role in decarbonizing world energy supply. This will be able to mitigate climate change. Namely, hydrogen as an energy carrier is expected reach 39 and 161 million tonnes of hydrogen per annum (Mtpa) in 2050.

Australia's national science agency, CSIRO, announced plans to partner with Perth-based iron ore producer Fortescue Metals Group (Fortescue) on hydrogen technologies, aiming to support the development of a sustainable energy future, create new jobs and pave the way for low emissions export opportunities.

Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine announced the beginning of construction of the 'Water-Go-Round', the first-of-its-kind hydrogen fuel cell boat, representing a global paradigm for the advantages of hydrogen fuel cells in the commercial maritime industry. When launched in mid-2019 the Water-Go-Round will be the first fuel cell vessel in the US and the first commercial fuel cell ferry in the world. 

The Port of Amsterdam announced collaboration with Nouryon and Tata Steel to study the feasibility of a large green hydrogen cluster in the Amsterdam region. The three parties consider green hydrogen as vital for reaching climate targets and building a more circular economy.

Innovate UK have awarded £430,332 to design and integrate a hydrogen diesel dual fuel injection system onboard a commercial ferry. The hydrogen that will be used in the project HyDIME, will power a ferry operating between the main town of Kirkwall and the island of Shapinsay.

The California Air Resources Board has preliminarily awarded $41 million dollars to the Port of Los Angeles for the Zero-Emission and Near Zero-Emission Freight Facilities project. The total project cost for this initial phase is $82,568,872, with partners providing $41,446,612.

The National Hydrogen Roadmap describes a path to develop the action and investment plans required to realise the full benefits of a hydrogen economy. Hydrogen is a clean-burning fuel with a range of uses, from powering vehicles, to storing energy. The Roadmap was sponsored by 21 industry and government bodies.

The Port of Long Beach will vote on a proposal by Toyota Logistics Services to reconfigure its facility at Pier B and build a renewable fuel-cell power plant and hydrogen fueling station, on Monday, August 13. The facility will include a 2.3-megawatt fuel-cell power plant and a new fueling station that includes pumps dedicated to hydrogen.

In a bid to support the development of an Australian hydrogen industry, the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA) has launched a funding round in late 2017 to accelerate innovation in the creation, transportation and transformation of hydrogen into energy at the point of use. 

California-based Bay Ship and Yacht Co. has secured a contract to build the first hydrogen fuel cell passenger vessel in the US for Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine. The vessel is expected to be delivered and in service by September 2019 and will operate on the San Francisco Bay.
