The Liberian Registry has issued a Marine Security Advisory to inform Owners/Operators/Company Security Officers/Masters of the imminent threat of attacks by armed skiffs, drones or anti-ship missiles in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

The global shipping industry is currently facing a significant challenge as tensions escalate in the Red Sea region, forcing companies and organisations to take action. 

Both Maersk and Hapag-Lloyd have reported incidents on December 15th, where one of their container vessels was targeted by a missile near the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

According to Reuters, another tanker was attacked by gunmen in a speedboat and targeted with missiles, in the Red Sea, off Yemen's coast. 

IMO Secretary-General Kitack Lim has expressed concern over the series of attacks against commercial vessels that have been occurring in the Red Sea. 

Yemen's Houthi group has claimed responsibility for a military operation against the Norwegian tanker STRINDA.

Industry associations BIMCO, ICS, CLIA, IMCA, INTERCARGO, INTERTANKO and OCIMF have come together to publish security guidance applicable to navigating in the Southern Red Sea and Gulf of Aden.

As evident in a recent statement, the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) has serious concerns regarding the recent attacks against commercial ships transiting the southern Red Sea and the Gulf of Aden.

According to Reuters, on 26th November, a tanker with phosphoric acid was taken over by armed persons who remain unidentified in the Gulf of Aden.

According to Gard P&I Club, regional conflicts, military activity, and political tensions continue to pose threats to commercial vessels operating in high risk areas such as the Red Sea, Gulf of Aden and Persian Gulf, Strait of Hormuz, Gulf of Oman, Arabian Sea, Gulf of Aden, Bab el-Mandeb Strait, and Western Indian Ocean.
