Hapag-Lloyd informed that salvage operations in Freeport are continuing with the discharge of fire impacted containers of Yantian Express. The operations in Freeport also regard door end inspections of potentially damaged containers. However, the company noted that it is not able to discharge the unaffected containers from the ship's current location and is looking for a terminal to handle them.

A fire on the Tanzanian-flagged LPG tanker 'Maestro' in the Black Sea has stopped after one-and-a-half month. The fire erupted on the two Tanzanian-flagged LPG tankers 'Venice' and 'Maestro', while they were transferring fuel in the Kerch Strait, Russia’s territorial waters, Black Sea. 

The Petroleum Safety Authority Norway (PSA) completed its investigation on the fire in the mud laboratory on West Phoenix of 5 November 2018. The report identified several breaches of the regulations. This rig is operated by Seadrill Management (Seadrill), and was drilling well 6406/2-9 S in Norwegian Sea with Equinor as the operator, when the incident took place.

US Coast Guard released images of the Cutter Polar Star, that caught fire in the ship's incinerator room about 650 miles north of McMurdo Sound, Antarctica. After the attempts of four fire extinguishers failed, the fire crew was trying to extinguish fire for two hours.

The Russian trawler 'Zaliv Ogli' caught fire while it was docked at Busan, Korea on February 28. The vessel was undergoing repairing operations when it got on fire. The fire spread at an unprecedented rate around the superstructure, engulfing stern compartments and then the bridge.

A Belize-flagged general cargo vessel was on fire off Italy, and its crew was evacuated as local sources state. The 18 crewmembers were saved and no injuries have been reported. Thus, authorities are investigating the incident to find out the exact cause.

Fire broke out in the engine room of Dragon Star 1 ferry, on February 25. At the time of the incident the ferry was carrying 52 passengers, and was heading from Kuah Terminal, Langkawi Island to Kuala Perlis, northwest Malaysia. All passengers were rescued, but two were injured and were transferred to hospital.

The Norwegian Maritime Authority informed that despite a slight decrease in the number of accidents in 2018, there was an increase in the number of fatalities. Specifically, ten people died in 2018, in comparison to seven in 2017. Seven of the fatalities in 2018 took place on fishing vessels. About half (53%) of fatal accidents over the last five years, are attributed to personal accidents.

Three people were injured and about 30 vessels were destroyed after a fire erupted in Muara Baru, Penjaringa, on the coast of North Jakarta, Saturday. Pictures and video footage by the DPKP Jakarta Province's Fire and Rescue Service in social media depict the rage of the fire, which was firstly reported at 3.16 p.m.

Ocean Network Express published an advisory release, according to which fire-stricken Yantian Express is still waiting to discharge the damaged containers, two weeks after arriving in Freeport, Bahamas. The vessel is expecting the port Authority to give the official approval to begin the discharge operations.
