Fire on fishing vessel off Northumberland

A fire in the engine room Humber Coastguard has coordinated the recovery of the 15 metre fishing vessel Green Pastures with a fire on board 25 miles off the Northumberland coast.At 10.53am Humber Coastguard was contacted by the fishing vessel Green Pastures with three crew on board, reporting a fire in the engine room. Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Amble and Tyne RNLI lifeboats and Rescue Helicopter R131 from RAF Boulmer.The crew reported that they believed they had contained the fire and sealed the engine room off. The rescue helicopter used its FLIR Forward Looking Infra Red camera to check for hot spots within the vessel and none were detected. The Tyne RNLI lifeboat has taken the vessel under tow to Blyth.Graham Dawson Humber Coastguard Watch Manager said,The Skipper made a very calm call on the VHF channel 16 Distress frequency. He gave a clear accurate position which helped us get assistance to him quickly.His actions in closing the ventilation to the engine compartment and his use of the dry powder fire extinguisher probably helped save the vessel and prevent injury to the crew. Oil production platform caught fire The Coast Guard responded with multiple air and sea assets on Sunday to reports that an oil production platform caught fire approximately 50 miles off Grand Isle in the Gulf of Mexico-- rescuing the two individuals who were on board the platform at the time of the fire.An MH65-C rescue helicopter and crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans hoisted the two men from the deck of a good Samaritan vessel, the HDS Stormridge, after they were recovered from a life capsule they used to escape from the fire on board the GI 102A oil production platform.At about 8 a.m., Central Standard Time, Coast Guard watchstanders at the Eighth Coast Guard District were notified by workers aboard the Grand Isle Block 115 platform that the GI 102A production platform, owned by Arena, was reportedly on fire.Arena reports the platform had been shut in two weeks ago and was not producing product at the time of the incident. Fire broke out aboard the In the morning of Jan 23, 2011, a fire broke out aboard the "Haci Koksal Mataraci" underway from Tarragona to Fos, 25 miles north of Menorca.While the fire could be tackled by the crew, the 1st officer had to be medevaced by helicopter and was taken to a hospital at Santa Caterina, Girona.Also other members of the mainly Turkish crew of 15 were injured, but had to wait as winds up to 74 miles and 6 m wave height hampered the rescue operation.
