Company sentenced to pay $715,000 penalty for oil spills

The US Department of Justice has announced that under a consent decree, a Louisiana company will pay $615,000 in federal penalties for crude oil spills and other Clean Water Act violations, pay Louisiana $100,000 for civil penalties and response costs, and carry out remedial measures to prevent future spills. Among other things, the company was accused of failure to comply with a US Coast Guard order addressing one of the cleanup efforts.

Korean Company fined for illegal discharge of waste water

United States District Court accepted the guilty plea of Doorae Shipping Co., LTD, a South Korean maritime operations company, and sentenced the company to pay a fine of $750,000, a community service payment of $200,000, and a term of two years of probation for the failure to maintain an accurate oil record book, in violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships, and making false statements to the U.S. Coast Guard concerning the discharge of oil contaminated bilge water.

German companies fined for illegally discharging oil into the ocean

US Department of Justice informs that two German shipping companies were sentenced to pay a total of $1.25 million in fines and a $250,000 community service for failure to maintain an accurate oil record book, in violation of the Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships and for tampering with witnesses by persuading them to provide false statements to the U.S. Coast Guard concerning a bypass hose on the vessel that was being used to discharge oil into the sea.
