South Korean DSME announced the signing of a MoU with NBP and Intel Korea, to jointly develop Smart Ship 4.0 Service Infrastructure. DSME will build a basic environment for the infrastructure of the Intelligent Smart Ship 4.0 Service on the Naver Cloud Platform of NBP and introduce Intel’s IoT solutions to the On-Ship IoT System.

Greek shipowner Alpha Gas has ordered two LNG carriers from South Korean shipbuilder DSME, in a bid to to strengthen its LNG-related business. The total contract worth is about $ 3.7 billion. The vessels will be constructed at the Okpo shipyard in Geoje and are due for delivery by the end of 2020. 

Maritime software, services and data analysis provider NAPA, announced that DSME chose the 3D model-based NAPA Steel software to streamline design processes and be up to date with the 21st century naval architects and structure designers. DSME will use the software at both the initial design stages, and detailed design stages.

South Korean shipbuilding company, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering, informed on Tuesday that it has reached an agreement worth US$370 million, for the construction of two LNG carriers for an undisclosed shipping firm. DSME will deliver the two LNG carriers by the first half of 2020.

South Korean shipyards, including HHI, SHI, and DSME, have set higher order goals for 2018, in line with expectations for an overall improvement in the shipbuilding sector. The country's shipbuilding industry is hit by a decrease in new orders in the last years, as a result from global economic downturn.

The South Korean Supreme Court sentenced the former CEO of DSME to nine years in prison, Sunday, on charges of fraud totaling USD4.69 billion. Mr. Ko Jae-ho orchestrated the shipbuilder's financial statements and plans for the fiscal year from 2013 and 2014, to cover up mounting deficits.

FLEX LNG entered into a time-charter contract for the LNG carrier newbuilding 'FLEX Endeavour' with Germany-based energy company Uniper Global Commodities. Currently under construction at DSME, the ship is a 173,400 m3 cargo capacity LNG carrier equipped with the new high efficiency MEGI propulsion system.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering announced that it has successfully demonstrated its indirect heat exchanger regeneration system, LNG cargo hold 'SOLIDUS' and 'MCTIB' at the Energy System Experiment Center in Okpo Shipyard. 

South Korean shipbuilding company, Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering announced that it has won an order to construct a Floating Storage Regasification Unit and an LNG carrier.

MOL announced that a naming ceremony for the MOL FSRU Challenger was held at the Okpo shipyard of Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering in Korea, on September 28. This is the first FSRU for MOL to independently build, own and operate.
