DSME orders Mac Gregor deck gear for 10 LNG carriers

MacGregor, part of Cargotec, has signed a major contract with Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co Ltd in South Korea to supply a range of Hatlapa deck machinery for ten 172,600m3 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. MacGregor will deliver electrically-driven deck machinery, windlasses and mooring winches, all optimised for operations in very low temperatures. Delivery is planned to start in 2017 and continue into 2018. "MacGregor was awarded the contract because it can deliver equipment that complies with the demanding technical requirements of operating in extremely cold conditions," says Alexander Nürnberg, Vice President for Auxiliary and Machinery Systems business at MacGregor. "As part of this project, we have developed new technology suitable for use in extreme ambient temperatures as low as minus 52°C."  The LNG carriers will operate in the Yamal gas field on the Yamal Peninsula in the Russian Arctic. "When operating in these challenging conditions, the highest quality equipment is essential," adds Mr Nürnberg. Teekay’s first MEGI-type LNG carrier launched

On May 29th, Teekay’s first M-type, Electronically Controlled, Gas Injection (MEGI)-powered LNG vessel, Creole Spirit, was floated out at the Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) shipyard in South Korea. The vessel is on charter contract with Cheniere and is expected to enter service early 2016. The two stroke engine technology provided by MAN Diesel, the MEGI propulsion system, is driving a step change in global LNG vessel efficiency. Whilst the most efficient Dual Fuel Diesel Electric (DFDE) propulsion systems have daily consumptions in the region of 125 to 130 tonnes including sea margin, the MEGI vessels have a consumption of 100 tonnes. That being said, it is not just the fuel consumption that makes the two stroke story so compelling. The reduction in the number of cylinders requiring overhaul, the reduction in the size of the complex electrical systems and the introduction of a passive partial reliquefaction system add to these LNG vessels’ efficiency and further help to reduce the unit freight cost. Over the next 8 months DSME will install the cargo containment system capable of transporting 174 000 m3 of LNG and put the ship and its equipment through the required tests and trials. NAPA, DSME offer solution for LNG Carriers

South Korean shipbuilder, Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME) and NAPA, announced that they now offer a tailored NAPA-DSME Power solution for LNG carriers built by DSME. The specialist solution will ensure transparent and accurate measurement of performance and efficiency aboard LNG carriers, including measurement of boil-off to provide a full 360° view of the operation of these vessels. DSME has been working with NAPA to provide fuel saving optimisation software to the international shipping industry since 2011. As the world’s leading shipyard for LNG carriers, with an annual production capacity of 14 vessels, it is essential to provide a tool for these key customers. LNG carriers have a unique operational profile, complicated by the ability to use boil-off from the cargo as fuel. The new NAPA-DSME Power® tool will help to achieve balance between the interests of the ship operator and the cargo owner on performance and efficiency, reporting information clearly and transparently to owner, operator and chartering cargo owner. Odin Kwon, Vice President, Head of Basic Design team, DSME commented: “NAPA-DSME Power® is integral to our Green Ship concept and we are pleased that a solution has been developed to extend this offering to our LNG customers. ...

Wartsila dual-fuel engines to power icebreaking LNG carriers

Five new Arc 7 design ice-class LNG carriers being built at the Daewoo Shipbuilding and Marine Engineering (DSME) yard in South Korea will be powered by a total of 30 Wärtsilä 50DF dual-fuel engines. The vessels will operate in arctic conditions to serve the Yamal LNG project in Northern Russia. The order was placed in January with Wärtsilä’s joint venture company, Wärtsilä Hyundai Engine Co. (WHEC) who will also build the engines in South Korea. Each of the LNG carriers will be fitted with four 12-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF engines and two 9-cylinder Wärtsilä 50DF engines. The engines will primarily utilise liquefied natural gas (LNG) as fuel, but are also capable of running on conventional marine diesel fuels. When operating in arctic conditions, the vessels will be required to handle ambient temperatures of as much as minus 50 degrees Celsius, and to break through ice up to two metres thick. This requires dramatic variations in engine load within a short time span, and the Wärtsilä engines were considered as being the most suitable for these extremely challenging conditions. “Altogether, Wärtsilä has been contracted within the past twelve months to supply 90 dual-fuel engines to fifteen of these Arc 7 ice-class LNG ...

GTT receives order from DSME for six new LNGCs

GTT announced an order for six LNGCs (Liquefied Natural Gas Carriers) which will be built by the South Korean shipbuilder DSME (Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering). These six LNGCs, for a European owner, are expected to be delivered between 2018 and 2019. They will be built with the innovative NO96-GW technology which allows an optimized boil-off rate of cargo LNG. Philippe Berterottière, Chairman and CEO of GTT commented: “The choice made for these buildings illustrates the trust given to GTT membrane technology. With this new order, 2015 is off to a very good start”. Source and Image Credit: GTTIn the start, I was frank with you propecia before and after has changed my existence. Finnish and South Korean leaders celebrate landmark deal for shipping

South Korean and Finnish Prime Ministers, Jung Hong-won and Alexander Stubb,  highlighted a landmark 50th deal for the collaboration between Finland's NAPA Group and Korea's Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME), as an illustration of the importance of the maritime industry to both nations. At a ceremony in Seoul held during a visit by Finland's Prime Minister accompanied by a Finnish business delegation, the two national leaders joined Vice President Head of Basic Design Team of DSME, Odin Kwon and President of NAPA Group, Juha Heikinheimo to mark the 50th order for NAPA-DSME Power, a joint solution for fuel saving and eco-efficiency in ship operation. NAPA, the maritime software house, has been working with DSME, the second largest shipbuilder in the world, to provide fuel saving optimisation software to the international shipping industry since early 2011. As part of DSME's Green Ship concept, the collaboration directly supports efforts to reduce bunker fuel costs, the highest expense in running a modern vessel. NAPA-DSME Power is used to obtain the most optimal trim, route, speed profile, and engine configuration for any given voyage. In addition it includes a complete office platform, which provides a quick overview of fleet efficiency, including tools for ...
