Speaking in London, new IACS Chairman, Knut Ørbeck-Nilssen announced a series of initiatives designed to ensure that IACS provides the support its stakeholders need in a rapidly changing industry. As Mr Ørbeck-Nilssen explained, the industry is becoming more and more complex ahead of digitalization.

Wärtsilä, in collaboration with Gulfmark Offshore, has realized testing of remote control of ship operations, on August 21, off the North Sea coast of Scotland. The testing involved driving the vessel through a sequence of manoeuvres using a combination of Dynamic Positioning and manual joystick control.

Maersk Tankers has entered an equity agreement with CargoMetrics Technologies, providing the company access and exclusive rights to CargoMetrics' analytical models, algorithms and capabilities. Hyundai Heavy Industries announced that it developed Integrated Smart Ship Solution, its proprietary ICT technology capable of realizing economical and reliable navigation and management of ships. ISSS is the first of its kind in the global industry.
