Danish Shipping said it will host a workshop on 9 November 2017 to help shipping companies address compliance related choices for the 2020 Sulphur limit. Additionally, the topics will include legal requirements, the refinery processes and how to handle the oil onboard.

The European Parliament and the EU Member States still have not reached an agreement regarding the EU's Emissions Trading System. European shipping is therefore still in danger of being subject to one-side EU regulation rather than supporting the global process, Danish Shipping suggests.

Denmark and Japan have signed a maritime agreement to strengthen cooperation in key areas of shared interests, such as the environment, digitalisation and quality shipping. The agreement includes a partnership agreement that was agreed between the two countries in 2014.

Danish Maritime and the Shipbuilding Information Centre of China have signed an MoU in September in Qingdao, China. This will allow the two parties to work together on ballast treatment development which will lead to wider links between the countries’ maritime technology sectors.

The Board of Copenhagen Malmö Port has given the go-ahead to build a new cruise terminal in Copenhagen. The terminal will be located beyond the current Oceankaj in Ydre Nordhavn and will be able to handle more than 5,000 passengers per call.

The Danish EPA has reported another two shipping companies to the police because their ships have been found to emit too much sulphur, reaching the total number of police reports to 19 since 2015. According to the regulations, fuel from ships may not contain more than 0.1% sulphur.

After more than 25 years of operation, DONG Energy's Vindeby, the world's first offshore wind farm, was fully dismantled. Vindeby, in the south east of Denmark, was constructed in 1991 as a demonstration project which was to prove whether it was possible to generate green power offshore. 

As the Ballast Water Management Convention is entering into force on 8 September, Danish Shipping launched a new guide to advise on its implementation. The guide is intended to be on board the ships, so the crew can seek information when needed.

The Danish EPA has contracted Danish startup Explicit to monitor sulphur compliance from ships. The monitoring will be conducted from the air, by sampling exhaust plumes from vessels in waters around Denmark, in order to detect and deter violations of the 0.10% ECA restriction on sulphur in the bunker fuel.

The first hull cleaning of a cruise vessel has been completed in Copenhagen. The removal of marine fouling from the DFDS Group’s 2,800 DWT ‘Pearl Seaways’, which serves routes between Copenhagen and Oslo, marked the latest in more than 550 hull cleans carried out by the pioneering remotely operated vehicle worldwide.
