The Technical University of Denmark informs that the expansion of Test Centre Østerild in Denmark is ready, making it possible for the manufacturers to start casting two new test stands. Siemens Gamesa and Envision Energy will be the two test stands.

According to Reuters, the US refused to sign an agreement in the Arctic due to discrepancies over climate change wording, risking the cooperation in the polar region at the sharp edge of global warming. The meeting between eight nations in Finland's Rovaniemi on Tuesday, May 7, was aiming to provide a two-year agenda to balance the challenge of global warming, with sustainable development of mineral wealth.

During an international cruise conference that took place in Copenhagen, 29 cruise destinations signed the Cruise Baltic Sustainability Manifesto, a manifesto pledging increased sustainability in the Baltic Sea region’s ports and cities.

Bladt Industries and Port of Frederikshavn have just signed a three-digit million DKK contract for the construction of a new oil terminal, which is planned to be constructed on the new part of the port in Frederikshavn. The terminal will be finished and ready for operation by the end of 2020, where it will be rented and operated by Stena Oil.

Danfoss Editron, an engineer company, provided the hybrid electric drivetrain system powering a new ferry that is to connect communities of Thyborøn and Agger in north west Denmark. The ferry was ordered to replace the previous one that had been running for over 40 years and reached the end of its operational lifetime.

The European Commission announced that it will provide 215 million to finance part of the construction costs of the Baltic Pipe project designed to carry Norwegian gas to Danish and Polish markets. The signing ceremony took place on Monday, 15 April.

The Danish Maritime Authority announced the launch of a large drone, that will be used to check emissions from vessels operating in  Danish waters to make sure they comply with the sulphur limit. The European Maritime Safety Agency is providing the drone, aiming to prevent ship pollution.

Improving the regulatory landscape is an important step for the maritime industry to raise operational efficiency, thus, reducing unnecessary administrative burdens is identified as appropriate. In this light, IMO, along with other organizations as well, are taking actions to reduce the so called ‘red tape’ in the sector and its implications.

Ballard Power Systems Europe will establish a Marine Center of Excellence (Marine CoE) focused on fuel cell marine applications at the company's engineering, manufacturing and service facility in Hobro, Denmark. The Marine CoE will design and manufacture heavy duty fuel cell modules to address zero-emission powertrain requirements for the shipping industry.

Denmark and Ghana have cooperated on e-navigation solutions, implementation of international regulations and training of tugboat captains since 2015. This week, the two countries extended the strategic sector cooperation until 2021. The overall purpose of the strategic sector cooperation between Denmark and Ghana is to boost capacity building in the maritime sector that benefits both countries.
