Carnival Cruise Line announced that the first steel was cut for the company's first LNG-fueled ship, as part of the company’s green cruising platform. The vessel will be the largest Carnival cruise ship ever constructed and the first-ever ship operating in North America to use LNG. A steel cutting ceremony was held in Finland on 15 November.

The video depicts Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas cruise ship arriving at Terminal A in Miami. Symphony of the Seas is the 25th vessel belonging in Royal Caribbean's fleet. The ship's naming ceremony will be held on 15th of November 2018 during a celebration hosted by the vessel's first ever Godfamily.

The Port of Seattle Commission will next week plans for $348 million in order to develop a fourth cruise ship terminal and invest in other waterfront improvements. The capital improvement plan will probably includes upgrades to Fishermen's Terminal and the conference center at Bell Harbor, as well as new light industrial space in Interbay near Terminal 91.

Celebrity Edge, the first ship to be completely designed in 3D has already started its Translantic voyage this month. The vessel marks a turning point on ship design, as from the first sketches, every step was done in 3D. Celebrity Cruise officially took delivery of Celebrity Edge from the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard in Saint-Nazaire, France in November 2018. 

The world's largest cruise company, Carnival Corporation, announced the imminent launch of its cruise joint venture with China's largest shipbuilder, China State Shipbuilding Corporation (CSSC), under the name 'CSSC Carnival Cruise Shipping Limited'. The new China-based cruise company plans to operate its own fleet to serve Chinese cruise passengers by the end of 2019.

On 31st of October, Port Canaveral announced record-breaking results from all operations, as well as new high-water marks for the Port’s major business lines of cruise and cargo. More cruise guests than ever chose to do multi-day vacations at Port Canaveral in 2018, as the number of passenger movements increased by 327,489 to 4,568,431 in 2018, a 7.7% increase over last year.

Sisimiut has become the first Greenlandic town to launch its own Community Specific Guidelines. The guidelines inform tourists on how to be thoughtful visitors. The guidelines were created by the local business association Destination Arctic Circle with support from AECO and funding from NORA.

The Association of Arctic Expedition Cruise Operators has included Iceland in its geographical range. Guidelines and other measures will also be applied to ensure sustainable expedition cruise operations in Iceland. At least 25% of AECO’s operating members have itineraries that already include or will include Iceland in the future.

Travel Leaders Group conducted a survey among 1,000 North American travel advisors, revealing that Scotland and the Netherlands moved up among the top five upcoming European destinations. As for the international cruise category, the Caribbean remained at the top spot.

Under the auspices of the UK Department for Transport and MCA, Captain Belinda Bennett of Windstar Cruises was granted the Merchant Navy Medal for Meritorious Service, as ‘the first black female captain in the commercial cruise industry’, for services to the promotion of the maritime sector. Bennett is Windstar’s first female Captain and is first black Captain in the commercial cruise industry.
