Two ships collide in Cebu

Greek ferry Superferry II collided in Philippines A passenger ship and a cargo ship collided at Lawis Ledge in Talisay City, Cebu early Thursday morning.The M/V Super Ferry 2 was plying from Nasipit, Agusan del Norte when it collided with the M/V General Romulo of NMC shipping.All 520 passengers of the M/V Super Ferry were reported to be safe. No crew members of M/V Gen. Romulo were harmed.Initial investigations of the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Central Eastern Visayas Detachment revealed that both ships entered the Lawis Ledge at the same time and eventually collided.Lawis Ledge is a narrow channel which serves as a point of entry for all vessels from Mindanao bound for Cebu.Commander Anelito Gabisan, spokesperson of PCG Central Eastern Visayas Detachment said investigations pertaining the incident are being conducted.He added that both ship captains have been asked to submit their marine protest before they can leave the ports of Cebu.Source: ABS-CBN News

Two missing in Sangley Point collision

Fisherman killed One fisherman was killed and two more went missing after a tanker and a fishing boat collided off Sangley Point in Cavite province, before dawn today.The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said that motor tanker Hagonoy, with 12 crew members was bound for Manila when it collided with fishing boat Aleha, with 68 crew members on board, at the 2.8 nautical miles off Sangley Point in Cavite City. The incident happened around 3 a.m.Commodore Luis Tuason, commander of the PCG District National Capital Region, said rescue divers dispatched to the area recovered one dead crew of the fishing boat. Two more unidentified fishermen are missing, he said.The PCG said that the 65 crew members of the fishing boat have been rescued and brought to its headquarters in Manila.Source: Philstar

Two ships collide off Talisay City

No one hurt A passenger vessel and a cargo ship collided shortly before 6 a.m. Thursday in the waters off Lawis Ledge in Talisay City, southern Cebu.But no one was hurt when MV Superferry 2 hit the starboard quarter of the MV General Romulo, a cargo vessel, at 5:50 a.m., said Cebu Coast Guard Station commander Rolando Punzalan.The MV Superferry 2 came from Nasipit in Agusan del Norte while the MV General Romulo came from Cagayan de Oro City. Both vessels were heading for Cebu City port.Punzalan said MV General Romulo of NMC Container Lines dropped anchor in the area as its hull and cargo area were damaged.Superferry 2 was able to dock at Pier 5 at 7:30 a.m., he added.Punzalan said the two vessels were required to submit a marine protest while Maritime Industry Authority would inspect the sea worthiness of the two ships.Source: Inquirer

Turkish tanker Besiktas Scotland in collision

Collision at the port of St Petersburg At 1224 March 13 2011, the 20,100-dwt general cargoship Marchicora (built 2000) was leaving the Russian port when it came into contract with the 20,000-dwt products carrier Besiktas Scotland.According to local reports,tanker was stuck in ice and was waiting for icebreaker to be guided to S-Petersburg port. Fog in the area of the accident In the night of Mar 5, 2011, around 3 a.m. the "Zelada Desgagnes" was in collision with the Panama flagged cargo m/v "MSC Patricia" (IMO: 9000209), near the Antwerpse Noordzee-container terminal.The "Zelada Desgagnes" was underway from Antwerpen to the Westerscheldt when it suddenly veered to port side, hitting the "MSC Patricia" which was bound for the Zandvliet lock in the port of Antwerp.The "Zelada Desgagnes" suffered considerable damage and had to anchor at Ouden Doel close to the Dutch border. It had a hole above the waterline and berthed at Antwerp Shiprepair for repairs in the evening around 11 p.m. The "MSC Patricia" was able to proceed to the MSC-home terminal at the Delwaidedok in Antwerp before berthing at Antwerp Shiprepair on Mar 6 at 3.30 a.m. At the time of the incident there was dense fog in the area of the Scheldt off the Noordzee-container terminal.Source: Vesseltracker

Collision between two ships A cargo ship capsized after colliding with another ship in the East China Sea early Sunday and company sources told Xinhua seven crew members were missing.The state-run news agency said the Zheyuji No. 618, owned by Haitong Shipping Business Co. of Zhejiang, was carrying more than 500 tons of scrap steel when it capsized near Zhoushan.The ship, dubbed Zheyuji No.618, belonged to Haitong Shipping Business Company of Yuhuan County of Zhejiang, the sources said.A search for the missing seamen was under way and the cause of the accident was being investigated.Source: UPI

Vessel collision leaves two fishermen in need of rescue

Both have been recovered A collision between two vessels 30 miles south of Start Point in Devon left two fishermen in the water, both of whom have now been recovered.The collision, between a container ship the Boxford and a fishing vessel, the Admiral Blake, happened at 18.35. At 18.43, Brixham Coastguard received a mayday call that had been relayed by another fishing vessel (the Amber J) on behalf of the Admiral Blake, reporting that they had been involved in a collision and that they had a man overboard. One other crewman had also fallen overboard and although he had been recovered back on board he was cold and wet. There were two other people on board who were reported to be safe and well. They also stated that they were not in danger of sinking, however they were taking on water. Brixham Coastguard launched a major search for the man overboard, sending the Coastguard Rescue helicopter from Portland to the scene, along with launching the Salcombe Lifeboat.
