Tugs to suffer alleged mechanical problems

'Loch Rannoch', which delivers oil to the port from the BPcollided with the tug 'Solan' Two new Spanish-built tugs stationed at UK Shetland's oil port of Sullom Voe have been taken out of service, following an incident with one of the tugs with a tanker.Shetland Islands Council (SIC), which operates the port, has launched an investigation and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) has been informed of the collision.SIC harbourmaster Roger Moore confirmed to local media that the shuttle tanker 'Loch Rannoch', which delivers oil to the port from the BP operated Schiehallion oil field west of Shetland, collided with the tug 'Solan'.The 'Solan' is one of two 7 mill tugs delivered to the port from a Spanish shipyard in February last year. The vessels are claimed to be two of the most powerful harbour tugs in the world with a bollard pull of 90 tonnes. Seven crew members have been rescued from the Dominican flagged vessel.The unfortunate mishap took place in the Bay of Biscay. After Coast Guard picks up emergency beackon signal Falmouth Coastguard have been working with coastguard colleagues in Spain, France and the USA during the early hours of this morning to assist the crew of a small cargo ship, Florece which was in collision with the chemical tanker Afrodite.The incident happened at 3.30 this morning. Following the collision, the crew of the cargo ship took to their liferafts, whilst their ship sank. The chemical tanker sustained little damage and was not taking water. All seven crew, who are a mixture of Russian, Polish and Ukranian nationalities, have been rescued by a container vessel Ocean Titan .Falmouth Coastguard were alerted to the plight of the crew when the emergency position indicating radio beacon (EPIRB) was set off as their vessel began to sink.The Florece was 240 miles south-south-west of Lands End at the time of the incident and was therefore within the UKs search and rescue region. Highspeed ferry bound for Manila rams fishing boat off Maasim

One was killed and seven were injured One fisherman was missing and seven others injured after a ferry rammed their boat before dawn Friday off Maasim town in the southern Philippine province of Sarangani, police said.Police said the mishap occurred at around 1 a.m. while the Superferry was sailing for Manila. The other crew members rushed to hospital. Other reports said the fishermen were fixing their engine near the port when the ferry rammed their trawler.The vessel did not stop despite the mishap and continued sailing leaving the behind the trawler in total wreck and its crew on their own.
