Bureau Veritas has been awarded the classification of CMA CGM’s new 22,000 TEU LNG-fueled containerships. The classification society investigated the feasibility of the design together with shipbuilding group China State Shipbuilding Corporation and GTT.

ABS classification society announced that it has issued a managed pressure drilling notation to Seadrill’s West Capella ultra-deep water drillship, demonstrating system compliance with the ABS Guide for Classification and Certification of Managed Pressure Drilling Systems. 

DNV GL has awarded class to BP’s Glen Lyon FPSO vessel located west of Shetland.  The classification scope covers the essential elements of the marine vessel, the structure, floatability, station keeping, and essential marine systems, and ensuring the asset integrity of these key features.  

Bureau Veritas has issued new rules for the Classification of Offshore Service Vessels and Tugs, including new class notations for pipelay vessels, accommodation units, offshore construction vessels and support vessels.

The offshore vessel KL Sandefjord, owned by K Line Offshore, became the first offshore vessel with the DNV GL class notation shore power. The notation verifies the design and installation of a vessel’s onboard electrical shore connection, the so-called "cold ironing".

ABS announced that the ABS-classed Harvest, an articulated tug barge purpose-built to transport liquefied anhydrous ammonia, has been delivered to a subsidiary of Savage Companies by US shipbuilder Vigor. The Harvest is the first complex liquefied ammonia transport barge built in the US since 1982. 

Bureau Veritas issued a new chapter in its rules, providing a framework for electric and hybrid power solutions. The new class notations include power management, power back-up and zero emission standards. The notations are expected to encourage wider uptake of energy storage systems to provide operational and environmental benefits.

MOL along with four other companies – Nippon Kaiji Kyokai, Minaminippon Shipbuilding, Sanwa Dock and Wärtsilä Japan – participated in a study project with the aim to equip in-service vessels with SOX scrubber systems in which ClassNK issued the first EGCS ready notation.

Carnival announced that its bunker saving ship, Carnival Vista, has been awarded an "ECO Notation" from Lloyd's Register, marking the first Carnival Cruise Line ship to achieve this distinction.

DNV GL welcomed the Unique Shipping Group’s new vessel Oriental Jubilee into class when it was christened in Ulsan, Korea recently. The 84,000 m3 LPG carrier was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan and is the first vessel to be awarded the DNV GL SCRUBBER READY notation.
