The US Coast Guard announced that it is seeking public comment on a draft policy letter for accepting test methods that measure viability of organisms when conducting Ballast Water Management System type approval testing. The public comment period for the policy letter is open, and comments must be submitted by September 30, 2019. 

The US Coast Guard Marine Safety Center received its 27th application for type approval for the EcoGuardian BWTS manufactured by the Korean manufacturer HANLA IMS Co., Ltd. MSC will review the application for compliance with USCG regulations in 46 CFR 162.060.

MPA Singapore published a circular informing the industry on the application of BWM.2/Circ.70 on 'Guidance for the commissioning testing of ballast water management systems' for Singapore-registered ships. The target of the commissioning test is to verify that the mechanical, physical, chemical and biological processes of the installed BWMS are working efficiently.

The Certificate was awarded after a USCG detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.

Marc Garneau, the Canadian Minister of Transport, published the new Ballast Water Regulations in the Canada Gazette, Part I, on June 8, 2019. Created after extensive dialogue with industry, scientists, engineers and international partners, the proposed regulations aim to strengthen current rules and reduce the risks to Canada’s environment and economy related to aquatic invasive species.

The Evac Evolution Ballast Water Management System said that it has been granted IMO Type Approval. The system has been designed and manufactured by Cathelco. The system has been tested to the latest IMO requirements which include the revised G8 standard and the recently introduced Ballast Water Management Code.

USCG granted the Certificate after a detailed review of the manufacturer’s type approval application determined the system met the requirements of 46 CFR 162.060.

The International Council for the Exploration of the Sea has developed standard operating procedures for the sample collection of treated ballast water sampling for use by scientific researchers. A link to sampling SOPs will be inserted in the data gathering and analysis plan for the experience-building phase associated with the Convention.
