Republic of Liberia has issued a Marine Security Advisory, for shipowners, operators, Company Security Officers and masters to inform them that Piracy, armed robbery, Kidnapping for Ransom (KFR) continues to be significant threats to all vessels transiting or operating in the Gulf of Guinea (GoG).

Two incidents (one CAT 2 incident and one CAT 3 incident) of armed robbery against ships in Asia were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 30 May - 5 June 2023. 

One CAT 4 incident of armed robbery against ships in Asia was reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 23 – 29 May.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (both CAT 3 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 16 - 22 May.

Three incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (all CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 9 – 15 May.

International Maritime Organization (IMO) has released its Annual Report on acts of piracy and armed robbery against ships where piracy incidents are documented and examined globally and regionally. 

Four incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (all CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 2 - 8 May.

Three incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (all CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 25 April - 1 May.

Two incidents of armed robbery against ships in Asia (both CAT 4 incidents) were reported to ReCAAP ISC, between 18 – 24 April.

ReCAAP ISC informs that a total of 25 incidents of armed robbery against ships were reported in Asia during January-March 2023. This accounts for a 9% increase in the total number of incidents during the same period in 2022.
