Australian Maritime Safety Authority has issued a marine notice on Bridge Resource Management (BRM) and Expected Actions of Bridge Teams in Australian Pilotage Waters with the purpose of remindingseafarers, shipowners/operators and pilots of the importance of well-planned Bridge Resource Management (BRM) techniques, efficient watchkeeping arrangements and passage planning requirements which enhance safety and reduce errors when navigating ships.

The Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) and the Tangaroa Blue Foundation(Tangaroa Blue) will work together to prevent marine debris from ships.AMSA is the national maritime agency whose responsibilities include protecting the marineenvironment from shipping related impacts and is committed to maintaining a safe and clean marine environment.

AMSA has issued notice in order to provide information to the maritime industry and helicopter operators and pilots on the requirements for vessel-helicopter operation.Marine Order 57 (Helicopter operations) 2016 (MO57) which has effect from 1 May 2016 and replaces the previous Marine Order provides the notice's backround.

AMSA informs that Certificates of Proficiency as Rating (Able Seaman, Deck Rating and Engine Room Rating) and Certificates of Safety Training issued in perpetuity (i.e. no expiry date) will expire after 31 December 2016 in accordance with the STCW Convention as amended. This means that the holders of such certificates will not be able to work from 1 January 2017 unless they have revalidated that certificate.

AMSA's latest Safety Bulletin focuses on shipboard electrical hazards. Incident data identifies electrical hazards continue to be a major safety concern. The bulletin explores electrical safety, with recommended actions to promote an effective electrical safety culture on board ships.

AMSA has directed that the 86 metre general cargo ship Noah Satu not enter or use any Australian port for the second time in less than twelve months. The direction was issued on 4 February and will remain in effect for twelve months.

From March 1, the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) will adopt the Large Yacht Code for super yachts and training vessels of 24 metres or more in length in a first for the Australian yachting community.
