The Norwegian Maritime Authority (NMA) has laid down amendments to the Regulations of 5 June 2014 No. 805 on the medical examination of employees on Norwegian ships and mobile offshore units to ensure satisfactory implementation of the General Data Protection Regulation.

2023 is going to be a year of focus on the environment. Following COP27, the message is clear; we need to act now against the climate change and for the maritime industry, IMO has already paved the way with the enforcement of strict environmental rules; nonetheless, maritime safety will always be a key concern for the industry. 

The IMO MSC 106, 2-11 November 2022, adopted a new SOLAS Chapter XV on safety measures for ships carrying industrial personnel (IP) along with a related mandatory IP Code, and progressed the development of the draft of a new international code of safety for autonomous ships.

Brandt Wagner,  head of the Transport and Maritime Unit at the International Labour Office, refers to recent MLC amendments that aim to strengthen support for ships’ crew, highlighting that these amendments demonstrate once again that the MLC, 2006 is a living instrument that can be adapted to meet the evolving needs. 

Hong Kong plans to amend eight regulations under the Merchant Shipping (Safety) Ordinance, the Merchant Shipping (Prevention and Control of Pollution) Ordinance, and the Merchant Shipping (Local Vessels) Ordinance.

ECSA and the green group Transport & Environment (T&E) have joined forces to call on EU countries and the members of the European Parliament to introduce necessary amendments to the FuelEU Maritime Regulation proposal, with the aim to align it with EU Climate Law and Paris Agreement goals.
