BMT to deliver patrol vessels for Qatar Coastguard

BMT Nigel Gee (BMT), a subsidiary of BMT Group, announced its latest partnership with Ares Shipyard (Ares) to design and build seventeen patrol boats from advanced composites, for the Qatar Coastguard. The order comprises three different vessel sizes: five of 23 metres capable of speed in excess of 37 knots, 10 of 33 metres capable of achieving 30 knots and two of 46 metres also capable of 30 knots. BMT will be responsible for the Naval Architecture, including hull development, and class level design & engineering work on all three sizes of vessel. BMT's team of naval architects and engineers has worked closely with Ares to develop the designs for the vessels which meet the customer's stringent performance and comfort requirements. Kerim Kalafatoglu, Managing Director of Ares Shipyard explains: "Developing a vessel that far exceeds the customer's expectations in both looks and, performance, could only be made possible through the effective partnership between BMT and Ares. A challenging project such as this, delivery 17 vessels in total, means that having a reliable and experienced partner such at BMT Nigel Gee is all the more important." Commenting on the project John Bonafoux, BMT Nigel Gee's Managing Director, said: "We are delighted ...

Alfa Laval: Integrating energy savings and engine protection

Vessel fuel bills remain high - and will likely become even higher for those sailing in Emission Control Areas after January 2015. Catastrophic engine damage due to cat fines is also on the rise, along with safety worries related to multi-fuel operation. Yet in the face of these complex and interrelated issues, the Alfa Laval adaptive fuel line offers new levels of savings and protection. Fuel costs, emission legislation and cat fine difficulties are all deeply intertwined. With HFO already at a premium, everything possible is being done to enable slower steaming and reduce fuel consumption. Meanwhile, emission legislation is forcing the use of even more expensive distillates, as well as the use of low-sulphur HFO. The fact that the latter has a higher average cat fine content can be tied to a growing number of cat fine attacks, which have increased despite the revision of ISO fuel specification 8217 to a 60 mg/kg Al+Si limit. "Part of what we're seeing is a consequence of the effort to curb emissions, which is making traditional fuel cleaning even more demanding," says Niclas Dahl, Alfa Laval Market Unit Manager, Marine Energy. He refers to a recent study by Man Diesel & Turbo's ...

EGR boiler from Alfa Laval is ready for testing

Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) has firmly shown its ability to comply with Tier III NOx limits, which will enter into force in January 2016. Over 1000 hours of EGR operation have now been achieved aboard the Maersk Cardiff, a container newbuild from A.P. Moller-Maersk with a two-stroke MAN B&W 6S80ME-C9 engine. Developed by MAN Diesel & Turbo, the EGR process already relies on Alfa Laval's PureNOx, which provides the vital cleaning of the scrubber water. Now Alfa Laval is cooperating with MAN Diesel & Turbo to implement an EGR boiler, which could potentially add major energy benefits to the secure emission compliance. Having demonstrated reliable compliance with Tier III NOx legislation, as well as the potential for fuel savings in Tier II operation, the vessel's EGR installation will soon be expanded with another remarkable technology: a pressurized EGR boiler from Alfa Laval. "We have shown that EGR works smoothly and that it complies fully with the NOx limits appearing in 2016," says Michael Witt, Head of Retrofit Development R&D at MAN Diesel & Turbo. "Together with Alfa Laval and A.P. Moller-Maersk, we are now looking beyond compliance to optimize the system and to utilize opportunities for energy savings." The reasons ...

Alfa Laval wins natural gas air cooler system order

Alfa Laval has won an order to supply air cooler systems to a U.S. export terminal for natural gas liquids. The order, booked in the Energy & Environment segment, has a value of approximately SEK 55 million and delivery is scheduled for 2014. The Alfa Laval air cooler systems will be used to cool the main process streams at the export terminal where refrigerated natural gas liquids (propane and butane) are loaded onto tanker vessels. "This large order relates to products from Niagara Blower Company, which we acquired last year. The air cooler technology fits very well in our portfolio of reliable products for the demanding oil and gas industry," says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. Source: Alfa Laval  In the outbreak, I was outspoken with you propecia before and after has changed my existence. It has become much more fun, and now I have to run. Just as it is incredible to sit.

Alfa Laval wins environmental order for marine exhaust gas cleaning systems to Finnlines

Alfa Laval has announced an order to supply Alfa Laval PureSOx exhaust gas cleaning systems to Finnlines Plc. The order is booked in the Marine & Offshore Systems segment and delivery is scheduled for 2014. Due to a confidentiality agreement Alfa Laval is unable to disclose the value of the order. The order includes four Alfa Laval PureSOX exhaust gas cleaning systems; it is hybrid prepared open-loop systems for four vessels to be retrofitted during end of 2014 / beginning of 2015. "This order for our scrubber technology confirms that it is an attractive and proven solution for the reduction of sulphur oxides, be it for retrofits or for installation aboard new vessels," says Lars Renström, President and CEO of the Alfa Laval Group. IMO's convention for the reduction of sulphur oxides (SOX) will affect all vessels, both new and existing. The convention demands that sulphur emission levels in certain Emission Control Areas (ECAs) shall be cut to 0.1 percent from the year 2015 and that the global emission level must not exceed 0.5 percent from the year 2020. To reach these levels ship owners can either use more expensive low-sulphur fuel or, on vessels where it is suitable, continue ...
