SAFETY4SEA is pleased to announce that StealthGas has received the 2019 SMART4SEA Technology Award, sponsored by Propulsion Analytics, at a prestigious award ceremony which successfully concluded on January the 29th at Yacht Club of Greece in Athens, the evening ahead of the 2019 SMART4SEA Conference.
StealthGas received the award for its ‘Eco Freeze’ vessel which is an LPG Carrier encompassing all latest technologies, being one of the first LPG vessels with hybrid scrubber and advanced cargo handling system. The vessel is a landmark on the field of LPG sector for the international shipping industry. Other short-listed nominees for this category were: Columbia Shipmanagement, GTMaritime and Inmarsat.
Presenting the award Dr. Panos Theodossopoulos CEO, Propulsion Analytics, said “Today, Stealthgas specializes in the transportation of LPG and is one of the key players in this competitive sector, being in fact the largest owner in the 3000-8000 cbm segment. The company stands out for its large expansion program, which saw twenty-six modern newbuildings in less than a decade, all constructed in well-established Japanese and Korean shipyards.”
Accepting the award on behalf of StealthGas, Mr. Lambros Babilis, CEO, stated “The actual credits should be given to Stealthgas CEO Mr. Harry Vafias and the board of Stealthgas for having a vision and providing the resources, the technical team that put the effort to accomplish it and the seafarers that made the extra mile to adopt, learn and run the vessel safely and efficiently.”
Eco Freeze’ vessel, an LPG Carrier encompassing all latest technologies, is the latest addition to StealthGas’ fleet. The vessel represents a landmark on the field of LPG sector for the international shipping industry. Eco Freeze, built in Hyundai Mipo Korea in 2018, is a 22,000 cbm eco type, semi refrigerated LPG\AMMONIA\VCM carrier.The vessel is able to navigate in arctic climates since it has an Ice Class 1B notation along with winterization options. Eco Freeze is one of the first LPG vessels with hybrid scrubber and an advanced cargo handling system. The entire vessel is furnished with LED lights making about 35 % of savings, having also the latest technology energy saving A/F system.
StealthGas attracted the most votes by the end of the voting period which held online during a two-month period. SMART4SEA Awards are held annually within the scope of awarding industry’s outstanding practices for e-navigation, connectivity, energy efficiency, cyber security, training and smart shipping technology. Other winners of the 2019 SMART4SEA Awards are: NAVTOR for the e-Navigation Award, Marlink for the Connectivity Award, d’Amico for the Energy Efficiency Award, ABS for the Cyber Security Award, Magsaysay Maritime Corporation for the Training Award, Mr. Peter Broadhurst, Inmarsat for the Personality Award and Mr. Mark O’Neil, Columbia Shipmanagement, for the Leadership Award.
