A feasibility study is about to start this month, in order to establish an LNG terminal and Floating Natural Gas terminal within the Colombo South Harbour, in Sri Lanka.
As Sri Lanka Ports Authority (SLPA) Chairman Dr. Parakrama Dissanayake said, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sri Lanka, Japan and India on a LNG terminal and Floating Storage Regasification Unit (FSRU) will be signed next week and the feasibility study will begin soon.

An underground pipeline will be constructed to pump the gas from the Western container terminal to a facility in Sapugaskanda or Kerawalapitiya, Mr. Dissanayake noted.
This LNG project will be Sri Lanka’s first LNG project, and according to sources, it which will import super-cooled natural gas in ships, with construction works expected to take about three years to complete.
