Sri Lanka, India and Maldives co-operation
Sri Lanka, India and Maldives have devised a special operation in the Indian Ocean to combat the menace of Somali pirates.
This was revealed by visiting President Mohamed Waheed last Friday. He said that the coastal navy of the three countries will jointly operate in the territorial seas to combat the menace of the Somali pirates.
Meanwhile the Maldives already have many Somali pirates under its custody and is in talks with the Somalian representatives for their release.
Waheed however contended that with the internal problems in Somalia easing with the recent elections that took place, the country would stabilize soon. “We are hoping for a gradual reduction in pirates” he added.
