Korean Register (KR) and Samsung Heavy Industries (SHI) agreed to conduct a joint study on “Ship Cyber Security Network Construction and Design Safety Evaluation”.
The two companies have established a cyber security network, which can be applied to new shipbuilding. It can also diagnose vulnerabilities in the cyber security of ships, and mitigate threats.
In addition, KR and SHI expect that this cooperation will benefit the shipping industry moving forward.
What is more, cyber security risk management is expected to be significantly enhanced in 2021 when IMO’s Maritime Safety Committee’s resolution “Cyber Risk Management in Safety Management System (MSC.428 (98))” comes into effect.
We expect that the security capabilities of smart ships will be further strengthened through joint research with Korean ships equipped with ship cyber security certification and technology
stated Shim Yong-rae, head of the Shipbuilding and Marine Research Institute, Samsung Heavy Industries.
