Eimskip informed that it received information from the Icelandic Competition Appeals Committee stating that Samskip had appealed the decision of Icelandic Competition Authority (ICA) from 17 April 2019, where ICA approved the cooperation of Eimskip and Royal Arctic Line.
ICA has now been given time to file its statement in the case. Eimskip will receive a copy of that statement and will be granted 5 days to file a statement of its own.
According to Icelandic competition law the Competition Appeals Committee must reach a decision within six weeks from the date of the appeal.

Eimskip believes that the appeal is unsubstantiated and will continue its preparation for the cooperation. It also said that it trusts that the Competition Appeals Committee will issue its ruling as soon as possible.
The parties to this case are Samskip and ICA.
Last April, ICA had approved the cooperation built on a vessel sharing agreement (VSA) between Iceland’s Eimskip and Greenland’s RAL.
Namely, RAL would provide transportation services to Iceland. Greenland would be linked to Eimskip’s international sailing system with its services of direct connections for Greenland to international markets.
In addition, three 2,150 TEU container ships are being built in China, and are expected to be delivered in the end of 2019. Two more ships are being constructed for Eimskip and one for RAL. They will operate in weekly services between Greenland, Iceland, Faroe Island and Scandinavia.
