The ReCAAP Information Sharing Centre has issued piracy report for November 2013. During this month, a total of 13 incidents, comprising 11 actual incidents and two attempted incidents were reported. No piracy incident was reported as all 13 incidents were robberies against ships.
During January-November 2013, a total of 121 incidents comprising 114 actual incidents and seven attempted incidents were reported, a continuation of the downward trend since January-November 2010.
Of the 11 actual incidents reported in November 2013, one was a Category 1 (very significant) incident, three were Category 2 (moderately significant) incidents, and seven were petty theft (minimum significant) incidents. Notably, the number of petty theft incidents reported in November 2013 was at its peak of seven incidents while the number of Category 2 incidents decreased to three incidents compared to the same period in 2012. On the whole, incidents reported in November 2013 were relatively less severe compared to November 2012. The Category 1 incident occurred on 7 Nov 13 involved the siphoning of Marine Gas Oil (MGO) from product tanker, GPT 21.
