The Port of Broome in Western Australia released a marine notice, announcing that the port will close to shipping from 15.30 local time, on 10 January 2018, until further notice, as a cyclone is anticipated to impact the country over the next 24 hours.
Specifically, severe weather warning signage has been issued at the Entrance Point boat ramps closing the ramps to recreational users. The public access walkway along the jetty neck, will be closed as well.
The Port’s radio will be un-attended during this period.
Furthermore, in addition to the Port of Broome, the Port Hedland is ready to clear the port on January 11, in case the if the tropical low worsens.
Additionally, the ports of Ashburton and Dampier will continue to monitor the weather system, sources report.
The tropical low is moving along the Kimberley coast, with heavy rainfall being expected. Until Friday, 12 January 2018, the possible cyclone is anticipated to be a category 3 cyclone, with winds reaching 165km/h and heavy rainfall as well.
