According to Reuters, seven Russian seafarers were kidnapped following a piracy attack onboard a Liberian-flagged product tanker at Gulf of Guinea.
Specifically, the seven Russians were among the 13 crew members pirates abducted from the Curacao Trader 210 miles off the coast of Benin last Friday, the Russian Embassy in Nigeria posted on its Twitter account.
What is more, the other seafarers taken from the ship are believed to be Ukranian.
For the records, Curcacao Trader was been boarded 244nm South Cotonou in Nigeria, by 8 armed individuals.
Following the above, shipping industry has warned about increased piracy attacks and kidnapping in the Gulf of Guinea, particularly around Nigeria.
In light of the situation, Stable Seas’ newly-launched report about the State of Maritime Piracy 2019 recently reported that during 2019, the Gulf of Guinea remained the area worst affected by piracy and maritime robbery of vessels worldwide.
